ADHD screening and diagnostic assessment for Bupa members

You can access a high-quality ADHD assessment using your Bupa policy. We can offer you and/or your child the highest quality assessments and support, ensuring that your journey towards understanding and managing ADHD is seamless and well supported.

Explore how our Bupa ADHD assessments provide a pathway to accurate diagnosis, thoughtful treatment plans, and ongoing support.

For adults
Whilst historically most ADHD diagnoses are made in childhood, reaching adulthood with undiagnosed neurodevelopmental conditions is common. ADHD assessments in adulthood can open the doors to better understanding of the challenges you may be facing, and provide recommendations for support and/or treatment.
For children
We understand all children’s minds are unique, and whilst neurological differences such as ADHD make us individual, it can also be challenging in school, friendship groups and family environments. ADHD can affect each child differently, but with the right assessment we will help your family move forward with confidence.

How a Onebright ADHD assessment works

Onebright’s specialist assessment team will need to understand your neurodevelopmental makeup and needs by conducting a thorough, expert assessment to ascertain if your difficulties are related to ADHD.

Step 1

Onebright’s screening process, led by a consultant clinical psychologist, enable recommendation to full diagnostic assessment, if screening is indicative of neurodiverse differences. If you think that you or your child may have ADHD, our screening process will give clarity and insight.

Step 2

Information will be gathered to understand your behaviour in family, social, and educational or occupational settings. For adults this will include information about your behaviour in your childhood. We ask your child’s school to fill in a report form and an online screening questionnaire, so we can understand their behaviour in different social settings. It helps our clinical team with their assessment and to understand your child’s strengths and needs better.

Step 3

The diagnostic assessment is carried out by either a clinical psychologist or psychiatrist, who are experts in identifying ADHD in adults. During the appointment, they will carry out a thorough clinical interview using the DIVA-2, which covers questions about how your symptoms or traits are impacting on your life at home and at work, your relationships, plus what you were like as a child. They will compile all the information that has been gathered during and prior to the assessment and consider this against the DSM-5 criteria to determine whether you do, or don’t, meet the threshold for a diagnosis of ADHD. The outcome will be explained to you on the day, along with recommendations for adjustments at home and work as well as support options available to you.

Step 4

You will receive a full comprehensive diagnostic report, with clear outcomes and easy to understand recommendations. Following the assessment, we will provide you with a comprehensive report giving a full breakdown of the assessment and our findings. The assessment outcome will be clear and easy to understand. It will include both our recommendations and helpful signposting for post-diagnostic support. It will also outline treatment options, these are not covered under your Bupa policy, so would need to be self funded.

Step 5

Our expert team will guide you on what self funded support options are available. If the results of the assessment indicate that you have ADHD, we will go through all the relevant support options with you (these are not covered under your Bupa policy). This usually looks like a ‘menu’ of possibilities (including medication and therapeutic options) and we’ll help you select those you feel would work best for you. If you choose to opt for medication to treat your symptoms, a specialist prescriber will assess your suitability for treatment, carry out some routine tests and, if appropriate, initiate a treatment plan for you. After your first prescription, you will be asked to have regular reviews with your prescriber who will monitor the efficacy of the medication and any side effects you might have. When you and your clinician feel that the treatment is working and a stable dose has been reached, we will make a referral to your local NHS ADHD service or GP, who will take over the management of the prescriptions and routine monitoring.
