James has been involved with the Onebright team for over ten years. In addition to his independent work, James is a senior lecturer in counselling psychology at London South Bank University.

Experience

James has been involved with the Onebright team for over ten years. In addition to his independent work, James is a senior lecturer in counselling psychology at London South Bank University. James currently teaches on both undergraduate and postgraduate psychology degree courses. James’ research focuses on practice-based evidence, in particular, clinical case study methodology, reflective practice and service evaluation. James is also researching the development and maintenance of problematic pornography use, often referred to as pornography addiction. He has had several peer-reviewed articles published and has presented research findings at BABCP conferences and the Institute of Psychiatry.

James has over eighteen years’ clinical experience working with people with mental health problems and difficulties in living. James has worked across NHS adult services, from specialist psychosis services, psychotherapy departments, secondary care mental health community teams to primary care (IAPT). He has been involved in the training and supervision of both trainee therapists and qualified practitioners; he has also designed and managed NHS services and taken the lead for service improvement initiatives, clinical governance and training.    

James is a BABCP accredited psychotherapist, supervisor and trainer, a registered member of the BACP, a registered mental health nurse with the NMC, a senior fellow of the HEA; he is also a member of the FDAP/SMMGP accreditation board.

James prides himself on being a generalist and has helped people suffering from various problems regarding severity and complexity. Areas of particular interest include the treatment of trauma, unusual experiences (psychosis), and problematic pornography use.
