Professor Spada is currently appointed Professor of Addictive Behaviours and Mental Health in the School of Applied Sciences at London South Bank University where he is the Deputy Lead of the Centre for Addictive Behaviours Research and Course Director of the MSc Addiction Psychology and Counselling. He also serves as both Editor-in-Chief of Addictive Behaviours and Addictive Behavious Reports, and as Associate Editor of Clinical Psychology & Psychotherapy.
Professor Spada is an experienced clinician, trainer, and researcher in the fields of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Metacognitive Therapy (MCT). The author of over 150 peer-reviewed scientific articles and three books, he is recognised as an international authority in MCT and its novel application to the conceptualisation and treatment of addictive behaviours, cyberchondria and psychological distress in health conditions.
Professor Spada’s areas of clinical expertise include addictive behaviours, anxiety problems (in particular generalised anxiety and worry, panic attacks, phobias and social anxiety), and depression/rumination.
Before re-training as a psychologist and CBT/MCT practitioner, Professor Spada worked as an investment analyst in the banking sector. The experience gained in this field has provided valuable support and insight for clients with stressful and demanding careers in achieving better work-life balance, improving cognitive performance, managing work-related stress, and tackling performance anxiety.
